Building a warm home for newcomer families in Ostend
For many Afghan and other newcomer families in Ostend, home is not a place of rest but of tension: trauma, reversed roles within the family, isolation and conflicts that escalate.
With Warme Banden we are building a culturally sensitive family and community program that makes home warm again. A dedicated project coordinator guides families and mediates in their own language, organizes “Warm Home” meetings and strengthens the network around each family. This way we reach people who stay out of sight for others.

The 2026 theme of De Warmste Week is “A warm home for everyone”. On 28 September 2026, the jury of the De Warmste Week fund selected Warme Banden. The City of Ostend supported our application with a letter of support. The project runs throughout 2027.
